German Wines
Germany, the land of famous marques such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche. So what do cars and wines have in common? Experienced wine connoisseurs and serious wine collectors will tell you that you can also expect nothing less than the very best wines in the world from Germany too!
German Rieslings have often been associated to be the most aromatic yet elegant and pure white wines in the world. Whether they are dry or sweet, their racy acidity makes these refreshing, low in alcohol, lighter-styled (unoaked) and long-lived wines the perfect drink with haute cuisine, Chinese cuisine and our region’s hot climate.
Start collecting them before they turn into Burgundy-like prices!

Tasted at Weingut Hermann Donnhoff in end Sept 2010. Just bottled. Nose is tight but with aeration it opens up to aroma of white fruits. Good concentration yet 'spring water-like' and multi-layered. 4. Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling GG 2010

First tasted at the Weingut in Sept 2011, it is still the best young Hermannhöhle GG we have tasted to date! Yes, even greater than the supreme 2009 vintage. Its purity and elegance is unparalelled! If you have to decide between the three superb Hermannhöhle GG 2009, 2010 or 2011 (all three won Best Dry German Riesling in the Feinschmecker Riesling Cup Challenge in Germany), we'd say go for this. Will outlive the 2009. 2011 has the potential but at this point the 2010! Drink 2015 till 2030. WV

5. Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling GG (Pre-Arrival) 2011

Tasted at the Weingut in May 2012 (before bottling). Massive ripe fruits matched by high acidity. Alcohol more elevated than 2009 and 2010 due to the very ripe and healthy 2011 vintage. This has all the right proportions and will no doubt evolve into a more harmonious wine with bottle age. Drink 2016 till 2030. With this 2011 vintage,Dönnhoff scored a hat-trick in winning the BEST DRY RIESLING at the Feinschmecker Riesling Cup Challenge 2013.

12. Kesselstatt Josephshöfer Riesling Auslese GK #6 (375ml) 2007

A rare gem indeed because very limited quantities were produced in 2007. Although having an impressive structure and ripe acids, the overly healthy growing conditions in this vintage limited the spread of botrytis. With aeration, extremely long on the finish. Still at its infancy, this wine has a great future. Only very few cases were made so stash away a case or some bottles before they disappear. Drink 2015 to 2040. WV (Jan. 2010)

14. Kesselstatt Josephshöfer Riesling Kabinett 2009

Tasted 3 times in 2010, this wine has finally started to wear off its initial toasty bread smell (due to the natural yeast used in fermentation). It has now developed nicely to show white peach, grapefruit and fresh passion fruit on the nose. Very charming Riesling that puts a smile on your face as you sip and think about its lively flavours. Finely textured and elegant Kabinett with medium sweet but fruity-minerally finish. Drink now till 2025 WV (Aug 2011)

16. Kesselstatt Josephshöfer Riesling Spätlese 2005

It welcomes you with strong aromas of ripe peaches. To taste, its good degree of acidity and powerful fruits flavours complement the sweetness it possess and gives the wine a good structure and balance. Although already showing signs of developing early secondary flavours which many would enjoy, true connoisseurs may want to wait for a few more years for it to shed its powerful fruits and gain complexity.
