Tasted at the Weingut in May 2012 (before bottling). Massive ripe fruits matched by high acidity. Alcohol more elevated than 2009 and 2010 due to the very ripe and healthy 2011 vintage. This has all the right proportions and will no doubt evolve into a more harmonious wine with bottle age. Drink 2016 till 2030. With this 2011 vintage,Dönnhoff scored a hat-trick in winning the BEST DRY RIESLING at the Feinschmecker Riesling Cup Challenge 2013.

Made by fanatics (Roman and his winemaker Dominic) '... from eighty year old vines....aromas of white peach and nut oils. Almost severely concentrated on the palate - with its vibrant acids expressed as fresh white peach....Here is one van Volxem 2008 that I-d be inclined to set aside for a year or so, although it may have made strides even in the short term since I tasted it. Made by fanatics (Roman and his winemaker Dominic) '... from eighty year old vines....aromas of white peach and nut oils. Almost severely concentrated on the palate - with its vibrant acids expressed as fresh white peach....Here is one van Volxem 2008 that I-d be inclined to set aside for a year or so, although it may have made strides even in the short term since I tasted it. It certainly seems likely to justify following for a decade.' WA

A garland of mint....adds intensely aromatic tang, while smoky and sizzlingly spicy aromatic and flavor incursions seem to reflect the veins of iron rich slate that here thread through a field of dark blue Devonian...'
