French Wines
Today's wine world considers the wines of France as classics; where traditions, history and experience form the backbone of French winemaking. In spite of France's fame there are still gems and good value wines to be found.
France is home to most styles of wines, from the luxurious old bubbles of Champagne to the ultra powerful red wines of Medoc. Afterall, Bordeaux alone produced as much wine as the whole of Australia. Difference being France's refusal to waiver with the whims of fashion and consequently does not suffer from over-production.
We aim to scour France to bring you an ecclectic range of daily drinking wines and collectibles.

1. Guy Charlemagne Cuvee Mesnillesime Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 2002

The only thing seperating this wine and the wines of Salon is a thick chalk wall. This ultra rare cuvee is produced by a boutique grower across from the gates of Champagne Salon. Although at a fraction of the price of Salon, these bottles commands tremendous respect. Will still be fresh as a daisy in 2020 (yes, no typo error here); alas, most of these will be consumed too early. WV

A gorgeous pink lady. Seductive, perfectly scented, elegant and bubbly. What more could we ask for ... in a pink Champagne? WV

5. Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs MV

We drove and we drove and we walked and we walked until we met the passionate Rodolphe!! All his wines are made from 100% Grand Cru vineyards. Not only any grand cru vineyard but the ones on the most expensive slope in the entire Champagne region (Côte des Blancs). Not heard of him? Of course not! He spends no money on glossy advertisements and passes us on the savings. Merci Monsieur Peters! WV

7. Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs (Disgorged 2010) MV

Same Cuvee de Reserve Grand Cru but disgorged in 2010. For those who are new to Cuvee de Reserve, Rodolphe Peters uses up to 35% of reserve wines (consisting of up to 15 vintages). This is high in comparison to most champagne houses who normally use 10 to 15% reserve wines. Hence, you can consider this a multi-vintage champagne of consistency and complexity.

9. Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale 'Les Chetillons' Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 2000

It's hard to go wrong when you are neighbours with Champagne Krug's Clos du Mesnil. Also made from a single vineyard, this extremely hard to tame beast is only starting to awake from its slumber. It will continue to evolve and show off very different expressions over the next 30 years but it is doubtful any of you will get sufficient allocation to see it grow old. Sorry. WV

10. Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale 'Les Chetillons' Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 2002

Our pride and joy! If you can't get your hands on Les Chetillons 2000, start begging for the 2002 (but only if you own a cellar)! We too are trying to buy as many cases as Monsieur Peters will allow us. Warning: it will bite back if you decide to uncork it too early! WV

11. Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale 'Les Chetillons' Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 2004

An absolute must buy for Pierre Peters fans and any champagne connoisseurs. 2004 vintage is an equally outstanding vintage compared to 2002 but is smaller in production. 'The 2004 Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons is stratospheric. This is a cool, inward Chetillons endowed with breathtaking finesse... That level of attention to detail goes a long way in explaining why the 2004 is so exceptional.' Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate.

Rodolphe Peter's wine making techniques, palate and attention to details are second to none. This is his most approachable wine, well suited for early consumption. Tame.
